Match Report: The 2008 Carling Cup Final was a football match played on 24 February 2008.[1] It was the first League Cup Final to be played at the new Wembley Stadium, and the first to be played in England since the old Wembley was demolished in 2000.

Spurs almost scored in the opening seconds, but Robbie Keane just put his shot wide. Spurs dominated the early exchanges as they looked to set the tempo, but the reigning cup holders started getting themselves into the match.

Chelsea took the lead in the 37th minute through a Didier Drogba free kick. This goal made Drogba the first player to score in three League Cup Finals, having also done so in 2005 and 2007. A Wayne Bridge handball gave Tottenham a 68th-minute penalty, and Bulgarian Dimitar Berbatov converted from the spot. Zokora should have settled the match in the closing minutes of normal time when put clean through on goal, but blasted over the bar after his first effort had thudded into Cech's face. Cech was again required to stop a low, goal-bound strike from Berbatov and there were more chances at both ends of the pitch before the whistle was blown to signal 30 minutes of extra-time

Cech had required treatment after his earlier save from Zokora and perhaps was still recovering when Tottenham struck again in the opening five minutes of extra-time. From Jermain Jenas' curling free-kick, the Czech 'keeper's weak punch ricocheted off the head of the onrushing Woodgate and the ball bobbled into the net.

As Chelsea pressed late on, substitutes Salomon Kalou and Joe Cole forced sharp, low saves from the recalled Robinson, but Spurs held under the final onslaught to emerge as winners.

Chelsea moaned and complained to the ref until the bitter end, even about him having the audacity of blowing the full time whistle whilst they were attacking! What they failed to acknowledge that on the day, SPurs were by far the greater team and fully deserved the win
